Gestational Diabetes

Were you informed that you have gestational diabetes?

What do we do now?

First, contact your treating physician, who will refer you to a nurse to receive a blood glucose meter and guidance.

The management of gestational diabetes is primarily nutritional. A clinical dietitian specializing in this field will tailor a personalized diet suitable for balancing blood sugar.

You will be asked to measure your blood sugar levels several times a day: fasting, before meals, and one or two hours after meals.

The target values are:

Fasting up to 95

One hour after meals up to 140

Two hours after meals up to 120

Maintaining balance is very important to prevent complications. The main complication is a large-for-gestational-age baby, leading to delivery complications for both mother and baby.

If you have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes, treatment and diet should be started immediately.

Even after birth, it is important to eat healthy and balanced to prevent diabetes in the future.
